Born near London, England, Matt's interest in music started at a young age. Having begun learning piano at 11 years old, his interests in music soon branched out, learning Guitar and drums soon after. After many years playing in numerous Rock and Jazz based ensembles, Matt moved on to composition.
Matt studied and gained a Masters degree in composition at the University of Hertfordshire and moved on to write numerous scores for films in the UK, USA and Australia.
Matt's last few films demonstrate the vast palette of sounds, textures and genres he can work with. ‘Kurfurstendamm Nuclear Bunker' is a soundtrack of ambient sounds and electro-acoustic music, ‘Switching Places' features a conventional orchestral score and ‘The Hollywood Movie Project' mixes an orchestra with sound-design percussion and fusions of dance music.
Outside of film music, Matt continues to compose music for recordings and live performance. ‘Just Letters' Matt's debut album will be released later in 2008 and features tracks for solo piano written and performed by himself. There are also plans to release another album of experimental music for various ensembles in 2009. Matt also creates art films, works featuring his music put to film that he has edited to create an artistic blend of music and moving image. ‘Kurfurstendamm Nuclear Bunker' is one example of this work and another ‘St. Katherine's Variations' is planned for this summer. |
